SS American Victory

SS

The SS American Victory is one of Tampa's most unique historic attractions, giving visitors the opportunity to step aboard a genuine World War II-era Victory ship and explore an important part of America's maritime and military history.

Permanently docked in the Channelside area of Downtown Tampa, the ship operates as a maritime museum and offers visitors a very different experience from a traditional museum.

Built in 1945, the SS American Victory served during the final months of World War II and later supported military operations during the Korean War and Vietnam War. Visitors can learn about the important role of the American Merchant Marine and the people who transported troops, equipment, ammunition and essential supplies during times of conflict.

Visitors can explore much of the ship, including its cargo holds, engine room, wheelhouse, radio and gyro rooms, hospital, galley, crew cabins, lifeboats, steering stations and captain's quarters. Exhibits throughout the vessel include historic photographs, uniforms, medals, documents and other maritime artefacts.
